Jonker Street, Every Now and Then

Parking is my biggest pet peeves when visiting Jonker Street. I usually park so far away to avoid paying, but if you want to secure a nearer spot, be prepared to fork out for parking fees to people that come knocking at the window as soon as your car is parked. That can cost a lot, and judging from what I witnessed last Sunday, it is not MBMB proof even when you pay the so called “parking attendant”. I fought the urge to laugh when I saw an exasperated car owner arguing with the “parking attendant” because he got ticketed. LOL! These people usually loiter around nearby to cash a quick buck out of enthusiastic tourist and they can be unscrupulous, totally painting a bad image of the tourist spots.

Last Sunday in Jonker was well spent, because I finally found some cheap phone cord scrunchies that I really, really like to use, and some colourfully handpainted metal hairclips. Frankly, selections there are way better than overpriced shopping mall hair accessories shops, though I can’t vouch for the price. But the phone cord scrunchies are cheap! They cost RM1.00 apiece but in Jonker its only 50 cents. So, I am gonna buy loads of them in every colours in near future, plus another 317 things that I KIVed and promised myself that I will buy IF I GET A JOB. Damn. Making promises to myself sounds so wrong, but what the heck! It sure is fun.

There are more places to sit, eat and drink along the street, which is a good thing because it can be very warm in the crowd. I am not exactly such a big fan of local food along the street, particularly because it is pricey and there are better versions elsewhere, but they do taste ok, if the eater’s not picky. :P

Most of the stalls sell almost the same things. That is proven by the incessant wailing of the poor rubber chicken from the beginning to the end of the street. Damn annoying. Pfft.
